Gina Batie was born in Hempstead, Texas and moved to Houston shortly after. Ms. Batie graduated from James Madison High School and later Prairie View A & M University, achieving her Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and then a Master of Educational Administration. Gina is an educator at present, teaching young people at the first grade level. You may have heard

Bodega, Crescent City Beignets in Sugarland, True Brew Cafe and the Hard
Rock Cafe in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tessie’s Kitchen, The Red Cat
Jazz Cafe, The House, Paesanos, featured poet at EV5 in Spring, Texas,
Who’s Lounge, and Goodfellow’s Cafe. She was the show host, coordinator, and artist liaison with the Umoja Jazz organization at The Vault in downtown Houston. Gina has also been invited as a special guest on KTSU’s Roundtable discussion-Poetry and Politics. She recently was chosen for a writing award by Writer’s of the Wood for her poem “Ode to Nikki” written in dedication to Nikki Giovanni where upon she was graciously received by Ms. Giovanni as a guest for an evening. Gina is the founder of Purpose a poetry group dedicated to the continued building of a rich, vibrant poetic community by providing networking information and performance support. She also founded Expressions Young Poets Society for 6, 7, and 8 year olds. This group teaches formal writing techniques while incorporating visual arts, drama and dance. Her company Poetic Expressions offers motivational speaking, a one-woman show, Poetically Passionate T-shirts, her debut CD and books- The Sensual Soul of a Single Poet, greeting cards, poetry grams, framed poetry, gift baskets, framed personalized poems as well as personalized poems on CD. She is also the founder
of Kaleidoscope in Black, a company that coordinates shows and brings
all types of art forms together, the company also manages and promotes
various local artist. |
